Telford Tigers handed out a 6-1 drubbing to arch-rivals Milton Keynes Lightning last night – their second pre-season friendly win of the weekend.

Victory at a packed Telford Ice Rink followed a 4-2 success in Milton Keynes on Saturday night, as Tom Watkins' men brought a tough first week of training to an end.

They now go on to a second week of preparations for the English Premier League campaign, culminating in next weekend's double-header against Hull Pirates.

It proved to be an early start for Telford, as they scored with a short-handed breakaway goal from Matty Davies after just 38 seconds.

Jonathan Weaver doubled the advantage 10 minutes later, before the visitors pulled a goal back on 15 minutes. But Milton Keynes got no closer during the rest of the evening, as Adam Taylor struck at the halfway point of proceedings.

Macaulay Heywood added a fourth at the start of the third period, before Michal Satek tucked away a penalty shot on 51 minutes. And Sam Zajac rounded off the scoring on the stroke of full-time.

Coach Tom Watkins is looking for performances rather than results in the preparation games, but will be pleased with the double nonetheless. Next weekend Telford travel to face Hull Pirates on Saturday night, before the return match in Shropshire 24 hours later
