The Southport defender joined on a one-month loan on Friday and made his Bucks debut in Saturday's 2-1 loss at Worcester City.

Kearns recently had a spell in National North with Bradford Park Avenue but hopes his stay in Shropshire will be more productive.

"It didn't go as well as I hoped it would," he said. "The manager came in and brought players in so I didn't get much playing time.

"I went back to Southport but they said Telford had asked about me and I thought it was a good opportunity to come and get playing time."

The 20-year-old is a graduate of the famed Crewe Alexandra academy, where he was youth team captain.

Naturally a centre-half, the Liverpool-based loanee is also be capable of fitting in on the right side of defence for Rob Smith's Bucks.

Kearns was happy with his debut display but admits he must take his share of the blame for Worcester's opening goal.

He added: "I should have done better with the first goal, I tried to clear it with my foot rather than head the ball.

"I knew I had to try to do something to help us get back in the game and I felt I did well after that.

"I thought we were the better team and looked like we could win it."
