Former WBC and inaugural IBF titlist Larry Holmes will be present to watch the action at the Conference Suite on Thomas Street,

writes Craig Birch.

'The Easton Assassin' is the third most fighting champion in the division's history, making 20 defences of his various belts.

Only Joe Louis (25) and Wladimir Klitschko (22) have put up their honours on more occasions. Holmes is also the only man to have stopped Muhammad Ali in a pro contest.

Despite not taking up boxing until he was 19, he competed in 97 fights amateur and pro, with 22 unpaid. The last was a disqualification against Duane Bobick in the 1972 Olympic trials.

He then spent nearly 20 years as a pro, debuting in 1973 before finally calling time in 2002. He featured 75 times, with 69 wins and 44 inside the distance.

He lost six contests, with an on-fire Mike Tyson the only man to remove him before the final bell. He halted a 38-year-old Holmes in the sixth round on 22 January 1988.

Now aged 67, the man considered to have possessed one of the best left jabs ever is a double legend, having been inducted into the International and World Boxing Hall of Fame.

Holmes will look on with interest at the 'Ultimate Warriors Fight Night' which will feature boxing, bare knuckle boxing, thai boxing, kickboxing and mixed martial arts cage fighting.

Some 12 bouts are expected on the night, along with other entertainment, featuring a host of Midlands-based combatants.

They include Tony Giles, Paul Tailor, Ricky Nelder, Shaun Cheesa, Gary Shaw, John Doody, Isaac Gibbs, Andy Davies, Tom Bourn, Jim Smith, Jamie Evans and 'The Sikh Warrior Singh.'

Spectators will witness a 'haka' first-hand, performed by the Maori Warriors who are making the trip over from New Zealand.

Ring girls 'the Warrior Angels' promise to add a touch of glamour to the event, which is being staged in conjunction with Showfighter.

Tickets are still available starting at £40, which is entry only and available on the night. All others must be booked by Friday night. 'Bronze' passes are £75, with soft drinks and a buffet meal.

'Silver' is £70, including a bottle of Jack Daniels and Smirnoff Vodka. 'Gold' costs £110 with waiter service, Moet Champagne and a meet-and-greet with Holmes.

The 'platinum' package is £250 with a five-course meal, wine, Grey Goose Vodka and Dom Perignon Champagne.

Also included is the meet-and-greet with Holmes and the chance to rub shoulders with the fighters, who will present them with a signed 'Ultimate Warriors' t-shirt.

The gold and platinum packages offer photo opportunities with Holmes and discounted entry to the official after-party, to be held at the Cotton Club above the Conference Suite.

The event has been backed by sponsors Mercedes-Benz Birmingham, Nando's, Sizzles Peri Peri, Swirly Joes, Barfia Wolverhampton, Ticketmaster and the Stores in Oldbury.
