The school's under-13 girls side ran out at the historic home of football to face Somerset-based Gordano School in the final of the Kinder + Sports Girls Cup, whick took place before the Checkatrade Trophy final between Coventry City and Oxford United.

Pupils from Thomas Telford won the competition last year with a goal from Anna Bebb securing a 1-0 victory over Bottisham Village College and three members of that winning side – Anna Bebb, Anna Bloomfield and Anna Welch – were back on the hallowed turf again.

But the school had to make do with the runners-up title this year after slipping to a 2-0 loss.

Prior to the game the girls had been given Shrewsbury Town kits to wear on their big day.

They also received some last-minute words of wisdom from Shrewsbury boss Paul Hurst.

And coach Anna Price admitted the whole experience is something the girls will never forget.

"The girls had a fantastic weekend at Wembley – one that they will never forget," she said.

"Getting to play at Wembley is an opportunity they will look back on in years to come.

"Three of the girls involved made it to the final last year, so it was a return visit for them!

"The weekend included an overnight stay at Wembley.

"We went out for an evening meal as a team the night before and we were invited to a full tour of Wembley Stadium before the girls went out for their final.

"All the girls' parents came along to support, cheering the team on from start to finish.

"They were incredibly proud of the girls along with the staff.

"Unfortunately the result didn't go our way, but the girls were a credit to the school. To have got to the final was an achievement in itself."
