Shropshire make two changes for vital bowls championship opener
Shropshire's two selectors have made the same number of changes for next month's make-or-break Endsleigh British Senior County Championship opener.
They take on bowls giants Warwick & Worcester knowing the victors will be red-hot favourites to win qualifying group two and make the semi-finals.
And that's why selectors Mick Jones and new man Mark Thomas have stuck with tried and tested bowlers for the clash on Sunday, May 7 – and picked the Premier green of Wellington club Bowring to host the home leg, scene of last year's 47-shot win over Greater Manchester.
Castlefields stalwart Glyn Herbert returns after being unavailable for last season's heart-breaking four shot Crosfield Cup final defeat against Yorkshire.
Herbert's new team-mate Adie Rowe also features in the away 12 after a long spell out in the cold while another Fields man, Paul Williams, and Wem USC star Derek Wright are the two men dropped.
Warwick & Worcester – winners of the title for four years in a row between 2012 and 2015, beating Shropshire by six chalks in the 2015 semi-final – have picked The George in Warley for their home leg.
Jones stressed: "You have to say that these are the two strongest sides in the group going on records – and that's no disrespect to Wales or Derbyshire – so this first game is must-win, and hopefully we can do the job."
