Gold medal-winning Paralympic champion Simon Richardson MBE will join with hundreds of other cyclists riding the Ludlow Brewing Co Cycle Sportive on Sunday.

Richardson returned from Beijing in 2008 with two gold medals on the track and a silver in the road race and was awarded an MBE for his achievements.

But his international sporting career came to an abrupt halt in 2011 when he was hit while out on his bike while training for London 2012. What followed was six pain-filled years of operations and slow rehabilitation.

He has been determined to return to riding – not to compete at international level – but to direct his passion to raising funds for the Air Ambulance service that did so much to save his life.

The 70-mile Cycle Sportive in Ludlow will be another milestone in Richardson’s preparation for an epic ride planned for August when, supported by a fellow Team Simonstrong rider, he will ride from Paris to Swansea to raise money for the Welsh Air Ambulance.
