Newport Paralympian Ben Rowlings claims record
Ben Rowlings was in world record-breaking form at the World Para Athletics Grand Prix in Nottwil.
Rowlings smashed the men’s 5,000m T34 time set by Austin Pruitt in 2014 of the United States by nearly 20 seconds. The Newport athlete came home in 12:02.00, with compatriot Isaac Towers finishing a close second.
“It was good – me and Isaac worked together to get that world record,” he said. “That had been the plan. I still had enough to sprint at the end and I’m happy.”
Rowlings, who grew up with cerebral palsy, is Britain’s number one T34 wheelchair racer and has competed in the European Championships, World Championships and the Paralympic Games at Rio 2016.
