Legend Steve Davis is snookered at Bridgnorth ceremony
Six-time world snooker champion Steve Davis went up against players from the Bridgnorth Snooker League – and was beaten by two of them.
Davis attended the competition’s season finale held at Chelmarsh Club earlier this month and took on a player from each of the league’s six participating clubs.
He comfortably beat Carl Walker of Shifnal, Chris Jepson of Alveley, Mike Rogers of Chelmarsh and Steve ‘Beamer’ Jones of Highley.
But there were two turn-ups for the books when both Tim Steele of St John’s and Mick Brezwyn of Broseley both got the better of the snooker legend – the latter clearing all of the colours with one visit to the table.
The evening began with a one-minute silence for Ray Pardoe, of Much Wenlock, who had recently died.
Mr Pardoe represented Broseley for many years and despite being well into his 80s, had regularly participated in the league’s over 60s competition.
His name is registered on the Ted Heath winner’s cup nine times.
Davis presented all the trophies to team and individual winners and finalists.
Chelmarsh’s Lean Cooper was called upon to present the Graham Cooper Cup and to receive a donation of £100 for Road Peace.Following the presentation, Steve played a frame of snooker against a player from each of the six clubs that participated in the league.
Mick Brezwyn cleared the colours with one visit to the table. Davis finished off the evening with a number of trick shots as well as a question and answers session with the audience.
A raffle of Steve Davis caricatures raised £336 for Rupert’s Revenge cancer appeal.
