The Offside Trust was set up in the wake of the Barry Bennell sexual abuse in football scandal, that saw countless former professionals come forward to speak out about abused they suffered at the hands of the former Crewe coach.

One of those was Steve Walters, who lives near Wrexham, and he and others at the trust have now organising a celebrity football match, involving ex players and celebrities at Chester FC on March 31.

Since the trust was set up, a string of other football coaches have also been jailed and Edwards has praised their inspirational work.

He said on a video on social media: "It will be a great day. If you don't know about the Offside Trust, they are an amazing organisation helping to raise the importance of safeguarding children, and the guys who have set it up have been through the horrible ordeal themselves.

"They have been sexually abused by their coaches, and they have had the courage to come and speak out after many years of suppressing what happened shows great bravery.

"They have already raised awareness but it needs more, and for you guys to go to the game.

"Go on their Twitter page and see all the amazing work they have been doing.

"They have inspired me. Thank you for what you guys have done so far."
