Gavin Cowan planning long-term future at AFC Telford
Gavin Cowan is relishing the project that lies ahead of him at AFC Telford United after signing a two-year contract with the club.
Cowan On Friday the news broke that he had committed his future to the Bucks until the summer of 2021, and that was followed by a convincing 3-1 win over Curzon Ashton in what was a perfect weekend for his side.
The Bucks boss who has masterminded a stellar season so far is remaining focused on the run-in, but admitted you have to have one eye on the future.
He said: “It is good obviously, we want to look forward and build together. I was not under contract previously but we’ve been talking for a long time and thought it was a good time to get it done and dusted.
“The expectation will be higher now but nothing will change, we will be focused on this season and hopefully trying to get into the league above.
“We want to build and keep the energy the club has had.
“You can’t look forward or dwell on the past, but you need one eye on the future.
“We have revived the club here, and given it its soul back as we said. It is going to be a longer term project now through the next couple of years.”
The Bucks boss is also hoping his commitment will be closely followed by his players, as they look at renewing their deals at the New Bucks Head.
He added: “We will address that to keep lads here next season.
“We would like to keep them on board, but will look at that in the next couple of weeks.”
Three big games lie ahead before the play offs, starting with a derby clash with Hereford at Edgar Street next week.
But as always, the Bucks chief isn’t looking beyond that.
He added: “They are a good side at home and have had a new lease of life in the last month or two.
“We will need a big performance and will concentrate on ourselves to nullify them and hopefully bring three points back.”
