Cup win for Ludlow
Tom Blount netted twice as Ludlow beat Royal Wooton Bassett 5-3 to progress in the men’s Tier 3 Championship.
Mike Wilson marked his promotion from the second team by opening the scoring for Ludlow.
Blount added to the home side’s advantage with a clever deflection but the visitors were able to halve the deficit before the break.
Early in the second half, a spectacular reverse shot finish hauled Bassett level.
But Ludlow responded well and scored three times to open up a 5-2 lead.
A clever finish over the keeper from Andy Richards made it 3-2 before Blount grabbed his second of the afternoon.
Matt Smart found the net to give Ludlow a big cushion and although Bassett responded by grabbing another goal, it was nothing more than a consolation.
Ludlow now head into the Christmas break before resuming their West Midlands One campaign against Edgbaston III on January 11.
Fourth-placed Ludlow sit four points adrift of current table-toppers Wolverhampton having played one game more. But Ludlow are eight games unbeaten since losing their opening two fixtures.
