Teenage star Bufton sets the winning pace
Junior professional cyclist Max Bufton claimed a strong 59-second win in the Shropshire Cycling Clubs Association Autumn 10 No.1.
Riding for Tofauti Everyone Active, the Newtown-based 18-year-old rider stopped the watch in round 13 of the SB Sports Injuries Series on 21 minutes seven seconds.
Series leader Tomos Hales took the runners-up spot in 22:06, stretching his overall lead over Jonathan Mills-Keeling to 26 points, after beating the Aerologic rider into third spot.
Mills-Keeling went one better in the SB Veterans’ contest with +4:05 behind Deb Hutson-Lumb, who took a typical win, but had to settle for the runner-up spot in the SB Female contest with 24:11, 24 seconds behind Wrekinsport team-mate Hayley Wells.
Wells has already taken gold in the SB Female contest and showed just why she has won the title with a fabulous effort of 23:47 – taking sixth spot overall.
In the SB Road Bike Series, Mark Fenn (25:07) took the win, but Ashley Kirkham captured the gold. Paramount’s Nick Hickman (27:51) was second, while Propel’s Matt Muir finished third and can no longer catch Ashley Kirkham, who had a day off.
