It is a dark time right now to be a Shrewsbury Town supporter.

Shrews' season hit its lowest ebb on Saturday as they lost 2-1 at the Peninsula Stadium to lower-league Salford City, crashing out of the FA Cup.

And that left boss Paul Hurst with nowhere to hide as he was sacked just 24 hours after this defeat.

It was the first time since 2013 – when they lost 3-0 to Walsall – Town had exited the competition in the first round.

The off-field issues at Shrewsbury have been a talking point over the last year after they registered big losses in their latest set of accounts and the income provided by getting through to the next round of the FA Cup would have been a much-needed boost.

But as well as what is happening off the field, there are clear issues on it and that continued on Saturday as Hurst's side lost again – this time to League Two opponents.

There were visible scenes of frustration in the away end at full-time as the almost 900 travelling fans vented their frustration towards the club's hierarchy, coaching staff and players.

In League One action this season, it has been challenging as Shrewsbury have lost 10 of their 14 matches and they sit second from bottom ahead of a huge clash against Burton Albion at the Pirelli Stadium next weekend.
