Kevin Wilkin finds 'areas to improve' despite AFC Telford United win
AFC Telford United boss Kevin Wilkin felt his side could've killed off the contest earlier as they eventually romped to a 4-1 victory over Bishop's Stortford at Bucks Head - writes Rich Worton.
In-form frontman Ricardo Dinanga bagged a late brace to put the seal on the win and score his fourth goal in two games across all competitions.
But Wilkin believes there were opportunities to put the contest out of reach earlier in the game.
He said: "Really pleased to get the result like we have. I felt we could've done it a little bit more comfortably than we did.
"Moments there we did really well, moments there where we've done not so well and we need to improve on those not so good moments if we're to stay consistent and beat the sides in and around the top area of the league, which we can do.
"Whether the lads are subconsciously maybe switching off or getting a little bit loose at times. Any team can come here and play and opposition teams are going to come here and have a period against you.
"We've got to be better when they have those periods and not allow moments and goals to develop. We need to start keeping clean sheets to be successful."
The Bucks flew into an early lead through Ellis Brown but Isa Rotimi levelled for Bishop's Stortford after Telford failed to take a number of chances.
Matty Stenson replied within four minutes to restore Telford's lead but Stortford kept the score down until Dinanga's late brace which prompted Wilkin to call on his players to be more clinical with the amount of chances they created.
"But you look at us from an offensive point of view and certainly the start that we had," he continued.
"A fantastic finish from Ellis and we probably nearly could've put the game to bed in the first 10 to 15 minutes. That's not being unkind to Bishop's Stortford but when those big moments come along, you've got to stick them away.
"Credit to Stortford, they keep going, find a moment themselves and draw level. Fortunately we've been able to pick it up again and it just felt like we needed to move the game away from Stortford.
"That didn't come early enough for me if I'm honest. Some terrific goals outside of that, some moments where we've got to do better and be more diligent."
