First-team coach Sean Parrish took training on Monday as Shrewsbury looked for their fourth permanent boss since the start of 2023.

The Town players will have their normal day off on Wednesday as they prepare for the huge relegation six-pointer at the Pirelli Stadium on Saturday lunchtime.

Burton take on Crawley on Tuesday evening in a game which could see The Brewers close the gap on Town to just one point.

The new head coach will be tasked with turning around Shrewsbury's fortunes as they sit second bottom of the League One table after 14 competitive fixtures.

It was that record which led to former boss Hurst being sacked after toxic scenes at the Peninsula Stadium on Saturday as Salop exited the FA Cup in the first round for the first time since 2013.

And after an emergency board meeting on Sunday morning, chairman Roland Wycherley was forced into action as Hurst and his assistant Chris Doig were relieved of their duties in Shropshire.

During his second spell, the former Grimsby manager helped Town stay in League One last season after his appointment in January.

That came courtesy of a 1-1 draw at Charlton as they survived with a game to spare.

Someone who is used to coming into struggling clubs is Dino Maamria. He came into Burton back in 2023, and he kept them up after a terrible start to the league season.

But it looks like the 53-year-old will be struck off Salop's list of targets as he is reported in talks with Tunisian champions Esperance Sportive De Tunis over a role at the club. Reports suggest that could be either as a coach or as a potential sporting director.
