Town are currently looking for their fourth boss in the last 18 months after Paul Hurst was sacked on Sunday following the 2-1 loss - and FA Cup exit - at the hands of Salford.

And with Town now searching for a new head coach it is understood they are looking to appoint someone until the end of the current season.

That, in part, is down to their current off-field situation as chairman Roland Wycherley is seeking to sell the club he has owned for almost 30 years.

In a statement he released on Sunday, Wycherley revealed Town are in advanced negotiations with a party interested in buying the football club.

Wycherley has been searching for succession for some time now, and along with vice-chairman Duncan Montgomery, he has been putting money in to help with running costs. It is also understood Salop are looking to appoint a head coach with experience in League One and, preferably, relegation battles.

Salop are currently second-bottom of the third tier of English football after a very challenging opening three months of the season.

They have taken just eight points from their first 14 games of the campaign - losing 10 of those matches.

They have a huge clash against relegation rivals Burton Albion at the Pirelli Stadium on Saturday - the Brewers are below them in the table. That match will kick off at 12:30 after being moved forward as part of the EFL's new broadcast deal with Sky.

Town are winless in four across all competitions since the eight-goal thriller at Crawley Town,  which they won 5-3 more than three weeks ago.

They will be hoping for the new manager bounce when the new boss comes in so they can kick-start their season.
