Salop director of football Micky Moore has been looking for Paul Hurst's replacement this week after the former boss was sacked on Sunday following four straight defeats and just two wins in the last 19 games.
The 2-1 FA Cup loss at Salford last weekend proved to be the final straw for the Shrewsbury board, who had an emergency meeting on Sunday morning before agreeing to part ways with Hurst, a popular figure among the Town fan base.
With it looking increasingly unlikely Town will have appointed a replacement ahead of their League One relegation tie with Burton on Saturday lunchtime, first-team coach Sean Parrish is likely to take charge of the team.
Parrish is due to face media today.
