The misery is being piled on by the bucketload for Salop fans this season, and not even Viv Richards, arguably the greatest cricketer ever, who was somewhat bizarrely watching the game at the Pirelli would cheer them up.

They are out of the FA Cup, they are out of the League Cup, they are out of the EFL Trophy, and they have eight points from 15 League One games.

Barring a miracle, it looks incredibly unlikely they will manage to stay in League One this season.

You cannot give up at this stage. There are still 31 matches left for Town to turn around their fortunes, but they are in serious strife - there is no other way to look at it.

They have managed to win just two matches so far this campaign across all competitions and their awful start to the season continued on Saturday as they were beaten 2-0 by a side Burton Albion side who had not won a game yet in the league.

It was a huge clash, a crucial clash, and Shrewsbury did not produce the performance and the result that they needed given the circumstances.

Instead, they went down to their relegation rivals, a side who are also managerless at present, and so Town's miserable form goes on.

For the many loyal supporters who made their way to the Pirelli Stadium on Saturday afternoon, there was very little to cheer at full-time.
