The former Wycombe and Queens Park Rangers boss is a coup for Shrewsbury, joining with his long-term assistant Richard Dobson.

The 51-year-old spent more than 10 years at Adams Park taking them from League Two strugglers to the Championship.

So what can Shrewsbury fans expect from Ainsworth when he steps into the dugout for the first time?

The Shropshire Star spoke to Sam Avery who covers Wycombe for the BBC and he described the job he did when in charge of The Chairboys.

He said: "He was a really nice guy to interview and to speak to. He's just a really down-to-earth type of person.

"As a manager, from a Wycombe perspective, he had ten years in charge and took Wycombe to the highest place they'd ever been, which was the Championship.

"It was their only ever season in the second tier throughout their entire history."

Town find themselves in a tough spot at the foot of the League One table and Avery said Ainsworth will aim to exploit the weaknesses of his opponents.
