The New Saints targeting more cup progress
The New Saints, having booked their place in the Nathaniel MG Cup semi-finals earlier this week, turn their attention to the JD Welsh Cup this weekend.
Saints head to Cardiff Metropolitan University in an all JD Cymru Premier third-round tie tomorrow (2pm), writes Stuart Dunn.
TNS were 16-0 winners over Llangollen Town in round two of the competition last month.
Cardiff Met are currently fourth in the JD Cymru Premier, two places and eight points behind Saints, who have two games in hand.
TNS travel to the Welsh capital boosted by Wednesday night’s 3-1 victory over Bala Town in the quarter-finals of the Nathaniel MG Cup, the Welsh League Cup.
Sion Bradley gave Saints the lead midway through the first half at Park Hall with a free-kick to the bottom corner of the net.
George Newell equalised 10 minutes into the second half, but Aramide Oteh then scored twice as Saints secured a semi-final away against Barry Town United.
After finding the net to restore the home side’s lead in the 67th minute, Oteh finished well again as the match moved into its final five minutes following a pass from Rory Holden.
Reflecting on his team’s efforts, TNS head coach Craig Harrison said: “There was a spell just after half time, a 10, 15-minute spell, where Bala got back in the game.
“I thought we dominated the first half really well, passed the ball well, won first and second balls really well, recycled the ball really well and looked after it and sustained pressure to get the opportunity we did.
“It’s a great goal by Sion. He was brilliant on the night as well. I’m really pleased for Sion. He’s obviously not played as much as what he’d like to recently, but what a great attitude and a great reaction.
“He scores a goal, he’s taking people on, he’s tracking back, fantastic for him.”
