AFC Telford United manager is full of praise for young star
AFC Telford United boss Kevin Wilkin singled out Remi Walker for praise after his influential performance at Leiston last weekend.
The 22-year-old midfielder burst on to the scene in Shropshire last year with a series of stunning performances but has gone under the radar at times this season as other players have stepped up.
However, after a goal and an assist in the last two games Wilkin made sure to highlight the former Birmingham City junior’s impact on his side’s back-to-back wins.
“We spoke about big players finding big moments before the game in the team talk, and every player in the team found big moments on Saturday,” the Telford boss said. “Certainly when it came to Remi, and I spoke in front of the group about what a big player he was for us, it’s nice when a young man can take that on board.”
Wilkin continued: “The energy, the awareness that both him and Jakub (Kruszynski) showed to create the moment, and the execution of the move from two young men there – I just loved the moment.
“We made it look really simple, but it wasn’t really simple at all, and to keep going at that level of our press is not easy for any side.
“We started Saturday’s game really quickly on the front foot, and to crystalise it with a couple of goals which came about in different ways really put us in the box seat.
“Matty had a slow start to the season with injury, but he’s certainly proving that if we give him chances he’ll score them, and Ricardo is the same.
“You can look at our record and say we concede too many goals, which I absolutely agree with at the moment, but certainly on the flip side of that we are one of the top scorers in the division.”
