Salop boss Gareth Ainsworth would have been desperate to get a result as he came up against his former side for the first time since he left The Chairboys.
But Shrewsbury produced yet another hopeless defensive performance as they were soundly beaten yet again as they let in four for the second week running.
It was a scrappy game in Shropshire, but the league leaders went ahead in the 15th minute when Cameron Humphreys got to the byline.
He stood up a cross, and Beryly Lubala was unmarked at the far post to head home from close range. Salop had ample chances to clear, and they did not take them.
The biggest cheer from the Shrewsbury supporters in the first period came just past the half-hour mark when former striker Dan Udoh came out to warm up.
Town competed with the visitors in the first half in what was a scrappy affair on a cold afternoon in Shropshire.
But it was their defending, which has been their Achilles heel all season, cost them again.
They trailed by two at the break when Caleb Taylor converted a corner that Toby Savin had failed to deal with.
Aaron Morley shot over the bar for The Chairboys after they broke on Town on the resumption.
And it was not until the 58th minute that Shrews had their first meaningful opportunity of the clash.
John Marquis capitalising on a mistake from Joe Low at the back, but he could not beat Franco Ravizzoli from a narrow-angle.
Udoh came on as a substitute and almost had an immediate impact when his cross was nearly turned into his own net by Luca Hoole - but Town survived.
The third did come when Fred Onyedinma headed home at the back post for Wycombe before Jordan Shipley scored an excellent goal direct from a free-kick to make it 3-1.
It was the only moment of quality on show all day from a Shrewsbury persuasion. Of course, Udoh then got his goal to seal the tie.
His powerful left-footed strike gave Savin no chance and put the result completely beyond doubt - Udoh did not celebrate against his former side.
The Shrewsbury fans streamed from the exits at that point and there was hardly anyone left in the stadium by full-time.
