TNS star's bold claim ahead of Boxing Day clash

The New Saints head to Caernarfon Town in the JD Cymru Premier on Boxing Day (2.30pm), with Jordan Williams insisting “the title’s still in our hands", writes Stuart Dunn.

Williams, the former Stockport County winger, scored twice as Saints beat Briton Ferry Llansawel 5-2 at Park Hall on Sunday.

That result, a 13th victory from 18 league games for the Oswestry club this season, saw them cut the gap between themselves and leaders Penybont to just a single point.

Both teams have now played the same number of league fixtures, with TNS having a better goal difference.

“The title’s still in our hands,” said Williams. "It will be and we’ve just got to keep winning games now.

“We’ve got to win every game we can, so the aim for every game is going to be three points, three points, three points.”

Caernarfon emerged 2-1 winners the last time they faced TNS at Park Hall in October, one of five league defeats the Saints have suffered so far this season.

“Obviously, they beat us here last time,” acknowledged Williams. "We’ve got to go there and pick up another three points and keep the pressure on.”

TNS head coach Craig Harrison expects a tough game at The Oval against sixth-placed Caernarfon.

“It’s tough up there,” said Harrison. "They’ve got fantastic fans. They come out in numbers and they get behind the team.

"They’ve got some very good players, so, yes, it’s going to be a tough game, but we’re looking forward to it.”

Saints will follow their Boxing Day trip to Caernarfon with a home game against Connah’s Quay Nomads on New Year’s Eve to complete a busy fixture list both domestically and in Europe during 2024.
