Salop boss Gareth Ainsworth has proven he is willing to mix things up when it comes to picking his starting XI.

In fact, in the last four League One matches the boss has made 16 changes to his team - to good effect as they picked up five points from those games.

The back six has stayed the same for that period, and the changes have come in forward areas.

Town have had a congested fixture list to contend with over the festive period, and Winchester says it is good to have that competition in the squad.

"It keeps every player on their toes," the Town captain said. "You need to be ready for when the manager wants you and when he wants you in the team.

"He knows that everyone is capable of going and doing the job. I think he just likes to freshen things up.

"Over the last couple of weeks, there have been a lot of games to give people a break who have played a lot more minutes than others.

"The lads who haven't, it gives them a chance to show what they do.

"I think it is good. Competition for places means no one is ever comfortable.

"You have to go out there and perform and do well. I think it is a good thing to have that competition in the squad.

"If he is making those changes or rotations once you get called upon it is up to you to keep the shirt."

Shrewsbury went to London last weekend on a four-game unbeaten run, but they came unstuck against Richie Wellens' Leyton Orient.

The gap to 20th place had shrunk to five points, but the weekend's loss and other results mean Town are eight points from safety.
