The 31-year-old, who made 133 league starts for Shrewsbury after joining from Coventry, left Town at the conclusion of last season.

Marosi had the option of an extra year on his Salop contract, but Shrews opted not to take it up - instead, they offered the experienced shot-stopper fresh terms.

The keeper declined the club's offer, and he left. In his farewell message, he highlighted their 12th-place finish in the 2022/23 season as one of his favourite moments in a Town shirt.

In mid-September, Marosi found a new club. He was signed by England legend Wayne Rooney at Plymouth Argyle on a short-term deal until January.

After leaving the Pilgrims, the keeper has signed a deal with Salop's relegation rivals Cambridge United.

Speaking during his unveiling as a U's player, he spoke about how difficult he found last summer.

"Absolutely, that is exactly the thing that I am looking for a fresh start," he said when asked about the move.

"It is to try and kick on again. It was a tough summer for me personally, but it is what it is.

"You have got to deal with things as a footballer sometimes, and it is new beginnings now, and I am excited to be at Cambridge.

"I have been there before (in a relegation battle). It is not nice to be in this position, but it is up to the team to come together and climb out."

Marosi will make his return to the Croud Meadow in April when Shrewsbury welcome his new side to Shropshire.

Gary Monk's side have the same amount of points as Town having played 24 games.
