The 21-year-old made 18 appearances for Salop in total - 12 in League One - but has not featured since the 2-2 draw at Wigan before Christmas.

O'Reilly has been recalled by his parent club, and immediately headed out on a new loan to MK Dons in the league below, where he will play for the rest of the campaign.

The Dons, led by manager Scott Lindsey, are 11th in League Two, but they are just six points off the play-off places with Doncaster Rovers in seventh.

O'Reilly had a bright start to life in blue and amber, impressing in pre-season after joining Shrews in the summer.

After registering an assist in Town's 3-0 win against Leyton Orient, he fell down the pecking order in Shropshire - behind another Premier League loanee in Leo Castledine.

When Gareth Ainsworth was appointed, O'Reilly had chances to impress, but his spell at the Croud Meadow never got going after a promising start.

It has been a busy week for Ainsworth. Harrison Biggins returned from his loan spell at Carlisle on Tuesday, and on the same day, it was announced that Shrewsbury academy product Tom Bloxham had been sold to Blackpool.

Town made their first signing of the January window ahead of the cross-border derby with Wrexham as Callum Stewart joined from National League North side Leamington.

With O'Reilly's departure, it means half of Town's loan players who arrived in the summer have now left the club.

Charles Sagoe Jr was the first to depart last week heading back to Arsenal, and Josh Kayode returned to fellow League One club Rotherham on Sunday.

Castledine, Funso Ojo and O'Reilly's Aston Villa team-mate Josh Feeney are still in Shropshire.
