Ex-Shrewsbury winger Ryan Barnett, Elliot Lee and Lewis Brunt are all doubts for the match at the Croud Meadow in a boost for Shrewsbury boss Gareth Ainsworth.

Barnett was a surprise exclusion for the Red Dragons in their last clash against Peterborough - a game they won 1-0 thanks to Steven Fletcher's late goal in the 87th minute.

Lee has not played for Phil Parkinson's side since the 2-1 home win against Wigan on December 29, he came on as a substitute in that game in the 70th minute for Ollie Palmer.

Brunt also has not featured since the same game.

Wrexham, like Shrewsbury, have not played since January 4 so both teams have had 12 days to prepare for this fixture.

And Parkinson has spoken about the trio's fitness before the clash.

He said: “Those three are getting closer. Obviously, they have been in having treatment and working to try and get them as close as possible to being available for if not this week then the following week.

“These two days are important days training for us and we’ll just assess everybody closer to kick-off.

“But those injuries weren’t long term and we’ll just look at everybody in training over the next couple of days and pick the team we feel is right to get the result at Shrewsbury.”

Jack Marriott, who scored the third goal when the two teams met at the Racecourse Ground earlier in the season - will also miss out - he has a broken leg and is not expected to return until mid-February.
