AFC Telford boss Kevin Wilkin on why he wants 'boring games'
Kevin Wilkin has admitted AFC Telford United are overdue some ‘boring games’ after a hectic run of results in recent weeks.
Since the Bucks' last home game – the 2-0 win over Halesowen on Boxing Day – they have had four away games, scoring nine goals and conceding 12 across a win, two draws and a defeat.
And ahead of their home tie with Stamford tomorrow, the first of four home games in their next five outings, Wilkin is hoping to see a less erratic performance from his side.
“I suppose one or two 'boring' games would be the order of the day for us,” he laughed. “Again we’re disappointed with certain aspects of Tuesday’s game, because there were some really good aspects of it and some really low moments too.”
Wilkin added: “You can’t flip between the two of them on such a regular basis and expect to bring a level of positive consistency to your game, but that’s where we find ourselves.
“I can see fairly clearly now where we need to improve. It’s been a common theme now and people have had chances and opportunities to put it right.
“When the same thing keeps occurring I’m going to have to look at different avenues to improve the situation.
“Rarely is it just one thing that needs to be improved, but as we all know our overall goals against record is poor and for as long as that remains the case we’ll carry on being challenged in games.”
Wilkin went on to confirm that the club are exploring defensive reinforcements, saying: “There’s a mix of senior players and younger players that we’re looking at (on loan). One of them is a defender that we’re certainly thinking about, and we would like another to come and bolster the ranks.”
