Shrewsbury Town debrief: A night for the ages, the epic front two, and a new-found resilience

Salop fans have been through an emotional rollercoaster in the last seven days. Their best player was sold to Blackpool on Tuesday, half of their loan players have left, and reports are linking their captain with a return to his native Ireland. 

But despite all that, Gareth Ainsworth and his team produced a stunning result to get their fifth League One victory of the campaign against their fiercest rivals. 

Despite what has happened in the lead-up to the game, the cross-border derby win is enough to bring a smile to even the most negative Town fans. 

Shrews led through John Marquis only for Steven Fletcher to level for the visitors, but the Town striker's second of the evening turned out to be the match-winner - here are the talking points. 

A night for the ages

Shrewsbury fans have been through some heartache over these last 18 months. 

There have been so many moments of struggle in recent memory that when the good times come about - they must be enjoyed. The atmosphere was outstanding inside the Croud Meadow on Thursday evening, and the way the players and staff celebrated with the supporters at the end was brilliant. 

They did a lap of honour around the stadium, and you get the feeling that something is building on the pitch.
