Alport took their FA Vase form into Midland Premier action and look well-placed to capitalise on a number of games in hand to improve on their standing of 10th.

Adam Shillcock's side are the final Midlands representatives in the last 16 of the Vase, with a fifth round tie away against North Shields on the horizon on Saturday and were far too strong for the division's basement boys from Wolverhampton.

Shrewsbury junior Loughran opened the scoring for his loan club on 25 minutes with a cool lofted finish. Whitney, another Meadow product, made it two with a neat finish into the corner a couple of minutes before the break.

Former AFC Telford and The New Saints winger Harry Bower wrapped up the points 20 minutes from time as he powered into the far corner from a tight angle.

Whitney was the first to fire his brace by converting a tap-in at the far post before man of the match Loughran's fine effort from range in the final minute.

Alport are in league action at AFC Wulfrunians on Tuesday night prior to the resumption of their journey to Wembley.

Shifnal Town lost ground in the push for Midland Premier promotion with a 2-1 home defeat to play-off rivals Atherstone Town.

The hosts dominated the ball but were undone by Atherstone's two efforts at goal, the winner just after Shifnal's Kevin Monteiro had bagged an equaliser 15 minutes from time.

Ryan Harkin put the visitors ahead just after half-time and Shifnal had to be patient but that paid off as Monteiro turned in Sam Fitzgerald's corner.

But thoughts of Shifnal pushing for a winner were put to bed minutes later when Atherstone's Tom Smith headed in from a long ball to inflict a surprise defeat on Connor Patterson's men.

Shawbury United earned the county bragging rights in the derby at Market Drayton Town in North West Counties Division One South.

Rock-bottom Shawbury won for just the fourth time in 24 league attempts this season with Harry Woodburn the goal hero on the stroke of half-time in front of a gate of 167.

Another of United's heroes was popular former Drayton goalkeeper Ash Rawlins. The ex-AFC Telford keeper was spot-on from 12 yards to keep out a Drayton penalty and save the follow-up rebound just prior to Woodburn's winner.

Shawbury are now just three points from catching Allscott Heath in the final position of safety, with Drayton progress checked in 10th.

Allscott claimed an impressive point at fourth-placed Cheadle Heath Nomads thanks to equalisers from Jack Sweeney and Logan Trainer.

In the Hellenic League Division One mid-table Ludlow Town claimed an impressive last-gasp home point against leaders Droitwich Spa.

Connor Davies-Austin struck at the death to snatch a point for the south Shropshire hosts. Droitwich's Perry Moss had opened the scoring 13 minutes from time.

West Midlands Premier runaway leaders Telford Town parked league action for a Shropshire Challenge Cup quarter-final tie against Wrockwardine Wood.

And hosts Telford prevailed to the last four as 3-1 winners with Andy Nicol, Ryan Mansell and Dan Beddows on target. Wood's Lee Rogers had reduced the deficit to 2-1 in the closing stages before Beddows made it three.

Town will host Shrewsbury Up & Comers in the County Cup semi-final on February 15.
