There were distressing scenes last night in Town's 1-0 defeat in Greater Manchester as the defender picked up a nasty neck injury after a collision in the penalty area.

The 25-year-old, who was down for more than 10 minutes, was being looked after by medical teams until he was stretchered off and taken straight to hospital.

Town's head coach Gareth Ainsworth and his Shrewsbury teammates were on the pitch by Feeney, and were clearly concerned about the defender's wellbeing.

This morning, the club tweeted to say: "We're pleased to confirm Morgan was given a clean bill of health and was discharged from hospital in the early hours of this morning.

"Once again, thank you to all the medical staff involved for their brilliant response. We look forward to seeing you back out on the pitch."

Speaking after the defeat thanks to Ollie Norwood's free-kick in the first half, Ainsworth gave some insight into what it was like on the pitch while Feeney was down.

"The players are fine," he continued. "Football is football. I have seen very similar things to what happened to Morgan.

"The people who will be worried more than anyone will be his family and his friends. I am not saying the players were not worried, by the way, they are, and I am.

"Hopefully, there will be no serious news. When you are dealing with necks it is always a bit dodgy.

"The good thing is he was conscious he was moving he was talking. I said 'Morgan it is the gaffer here' and he said in his very broad scouse accent 'Gaffer, I am alright.'

"That will do for me - it gave me a little smile. He is going to be OK. He is talking and conscious, he asked for his phone as well. I think if it was anything more serious he would not have been asking those questions."

Fans and former Shrewsbury players reacted to the news about the defender's health as it broke, including Feeney's former teammate Elliott Bennett.

He said: "Tough result for Salop tonight. Hope my mate Morgs is ok. Two tough 1-0 defeats away from home, one note of positivity is you can see how much the boys are working for Gareth Ainsworth and how hard they are becoming to play against.

"Spoke to Morgan this evening and he seems with it! Which is a great sign. Hopefully nothing comes from the after care from hospital and he be good to go as soon as possible. All hands on deck."
