AFC Telford: Wilkin on Harborough Town clash
AFC Telford United welcome Harborough Town to the SEAH Stadium tomorrow afternoon looking to extend their lead at the top of the Southern Central Premier.
After Tuesday's stunning 6-2 win over Bedford Town the Bucks climbed to the summit of the division for just the second time this season, thanks to their third consecutive win on home soil.
And ahead of their meeting with play-off chasers Harborough, who had won six consecutive games prior to last weekend’s defeat to Stourbridge, Telford boss Kevin Wilkin admitted he is expecting a stern test.
“They’re very attritional, and they’ve been in fantastic form up until the Stourbridge game,” he explained. “They’ve got quality players and have spent a few quid. The Stamford captain has come into the side and there’s certainly no lack of funding there – they’re having a right go at it.”
Wilkin continued: “They had a great run in the cup and were terrific in that competition, and they now seem to have found their feet in the league and will be a serious competitor come the end of the season I’m sure.
“Clubs all have different amounts of money to spend, and I know there are players that we went after but weren’t able to afford that, in a couple of instances, now play for Harborough.
“We have to get on with that and respect that. If they’re lucky enough to have that at their disposal then fair play, you’d absolutely go and use it.
“With what we have inside our dressing room we know the players are well looked after, and we know we just need a little bit of consistency to get us to where we want to be.
“They’re a very capable side who have shown on their cup run that they can match any team on their day.
“We’re aware of the threats that they carry, and we know that if we impose ourselves on them as we know we can do, we'll give ourselves a good chance.”
Telford only named three substitutes on Tuesday night following a series of injuries, but Wilkin is hopeful that will not be the case tomorrow afternoon.
“There’s a fairly strong chance that Remi (Walker) will be available, providing he gets through training with us,” he began. “Byron (Moore) will be a little bit longer I think, and while there’s a possibility that Steff Jones might train with us we want to make sure he gets through everything pain free.
“We’re hoping to make some additions before Saturday, but as always I only want to bring players that are genuinely able to have an impact on what we do on the field.
“I don’t want to bring in makeweights – that’s not really where we’re at – so finding the right players is important.
“It could be that within a couple of days we’re back to leaving players out of the squad again, if Remi were to be fit and Joe (Morris) came back to us.”
