The Telford Athletic Club athlete, from Ironbridge, shone in the picturesque setting of Soria, near Madrid, to secure second prize in her age group and third overall.

The duathlon consisted of a 10km run, 40km bike ride and a 5km run around the gruelling, mountainous course.

Weather conditions, including severe rain and hail on the bike stage, made the race a tough battle but Harvey was able to call upon hours of experience in the Shropshire hills to gain places and climb to second in that leg.

She was joined by fellow Shropshire athletes Andrew Hellowell (Wrekin College Tri Club) and Nick Price (Bridgnorth and the BASC Tri Club).

Harvey said: “I’m hoping to compete in the European Duathlon next year as well as other duathlons and triathlons.

“I’m lucky to have very supportive family, friends and work colleagues and I train with my great team-mates at Telford Athletic Club and Dave’s Dollies Swimmers.”
