Shropshire's Alice Kinsella strikes Commonwealth Games gold
Seventeen-year-old Park Wrekin Gymnastics club member Alice Kinsella claimed her first major title with victory in the women's beam final at the Gold Coast Commonwealth Games.
Kinsella scored 13.7 to edge Australia's Georgia-Rose Brown into the silver medal position with England team-mate Kelly Simm taking bronze.
It was Kinsella's third medal of the Games after also taking silver in the team competition and bronze in the all-around.
England won 16 medals in the artistic gymnastics competition, including six golds.
Speaking following her second medal, Kinsella expressed her pride at performing in the Games.
“I have never felt so nervous in all my life because it was quite tight,” said Kinsella after adding individual all-round bronze to her team bronze. “But I just went out there to do the exact same floor routine that I do in training and see what came out of it.
“I could have done a lot better, the beam wasn’t quite what I wanted with the landing so I could have improved on that.
“But I am still so proud of what I have done here.”
