The event is in its eight year but this is the first time that organisers had put on a two kilometre fun race for those aged between five and 11.

It will be held this year on August 26 based at the Lakelands Secondary School.

One of the organisers, Paul Davies, said the children's fun run will start at 10.45am with the 10k at 11.15am.

Children between five and eight years old will have to be accompanied by someone 15 year old older.

"The timing means that adults will be able to run with the children as a warm up to their own race," he said.

"The youngsters will have medals like the adults and also water and will start and finish from the same place. They will even have chips to record their time."

The 10k route goes out of town, into the Cremorne Gardens and onto the Llangollen Canal with a halfway water stop.

"It is a fast and very scenic course and really is for all abilities. The course record is an incredible 29 minutes and 12 seconds but the course is also perfect for someone wanting to do their first 10k. Last year was brilliant as we had about 30 runners who had completed the couch to 5k beginners course in the town earlier in the year."
