Wood battle to draw against fellow strugglers
Wrockwardine Wood captain Martin Gaut was delighted with his team's battling draw at fellow Shropshire Premier League strugglers Archibald Worthington.
The visitors have not enjoyed good fortunes on the Archies' green in recent years, but they took six winners from 12 in the basement battle, which pitted two of the bottom three against each other.
And they drew the aggregate 210-210 to claim an equal share of the spoils which keeps them just a point behind their opponents in second-last place, and stretched their lead over rock-bottom Bylet to 27.
Gaut said: "It was a good result for us. It is not somewhere that we normally do well. To go there and get a draw was very pleasing.
"It keeps us in touch with Archibald Worthington and away from the bottom of the league"
Neither side ever managed to really pull away from the other as the front middle and back four were all shared 2-2.
Andrew Jones was Wrockwardine's MVP for his 21-13 victory over John Digby while Stuart Rutter was their best winner, triumphing 21-9 against Rob Adams.
Gaut also praised the contribution of Tom Langford, who picked up a vital win, 21-12 over Greg Fordham, in the back four.
Steve Roberts' 21-18 victory over Les Markham in the front four also earned praise while Paul Gleave and Jack Hewitt were the hosts' MVP and best winner respectively for their victories over Rob Fuller (21-12) and Josh Cotton (21-10).
Bylet's survival hopes suffered another blow as they were hammered 13-1 at third-placed Meole Brace.
Second-placed Castlefields kept themselves just ahead of Meole Brace with a win by the same margin against Bowring while leaders Newport saw their gap at the summit closed, albeit only slightly, to 22 points, with their 11-3 win at home to Wem.
Chester Road and Burway defeated Hadley and Sir John Bayley 9-5 respectively while St Georges rescued an 8-6 home victory on aggregate after allowing Ifton to claim six winners. The match finished 233-187 in the home side's favour.
