Crunch time for the Shropshire Premier League

It's crunch time for Shropshire's top league tonight.

A make-or-break meeting of the Flowfit Shropshire Premier League is being held at Meole Brace BC from 7.30pm when the future of a number of its officers will become clearer.

Many of them are known to be unhappy with the fall-out from this year's play-off final which saw wooden spoonists Bylet retain their place at the expense of Tanners Shropshire League champions Hanwood.

But the Shrewsbury village club were unhappy with the make-up of the Bylet team, which included a bowler who had only played two Premier League games when they feel six were needed to be eligible according to play-off rules.

Hanwood have sent a letter of grievance to Premier secretary-treasurer Mark Burroughs which will be considered under correspondence before the 14 member clubs review this year's play-offs.

That review item on the agenda is followed immediately by 'Election of officers for 2015'.

Also to be discussed is a possible rule change regarding fixtures postponed due to bad weather.

Burroughs explained: "This has been raised in respect of the failure to play the Chester Road versus Ifton match postponed on April 25 and the penalities imposed on both clubs when the match was not played by July 9 – and the subsequent appeals."

Both clubs had seven points deducted, meaning the Roaders dropped below Burway in the final table and Ifton finished third from bottom rather than just below halfway.

Also to be reviewed tonight are the introduction of Mike Beckett's on-line results system next year, fixture concessions, league competitions and a venue for next year's presentation evening.
