County star dropped for Shropshire clash

The man who has dominated Shropshire bowls for the last 20 years has been dropped by the county's senior team selectors.

Peter Farmer, who first won the County Merit in 1993 and has gone on to win it a further three times, has been left out of the Endsleigh British County Championship clash with Lancashire on June 7.

The Newport star, who also has six Shropshire Premier League Merit triumphs to his name, suffered his fifth successive defeat for the county when beaten 21-11 in the home leg of last month's easy win over the Isle of Man.

And that has cost him his place as selectors Mick Jones, John Coxill and Peter Bound make two changes for what looks like being the key game in qualifying group four.

Classy Castlefields left-hander Paul Williams returns after a lengthy spell in the wilderness in the 12 to start away at Horwich RMI.

Sir John Bayley captain Tom Roden earns a quick recall to the home side at Newport No 2, after his recent marriage.

They come in for Farmer and Roden's club-mate and best man at his wedding, Alex Jones, who is unavailable.

Young guns Rob Burroughs (Hadley USC) and Rob Roden (Bowring) are named on reserve for the home leg.
