Unbeaten Bowring ace just keeps on winning

Bowring captain Rich Lawson is determined to extend his own eight-game winning streak to help fire his team up the Shropshire Premier League table.

Lawson's latest individual triumph, a 21-4 win over Jack Hewitt, means he is the league's only remaining unbeaten player after eight rounds.

But it could not prevent his team falling to a 9-5 defeat at basement side Archibald Worthington.

Bowring are third bottom and Lawson said: "I have had a good start. Like I tell the lads you are only one game away from starting a bit of a bad run.

"But obviously the longer I can keep it going the better it will be for the team. I'd love to get another eight wins but the Premier League is a very hard league.

"It is all about the team first and foremost. We have not had the best start and we have had some tough games, but I think we are in a bit of a false position.

"We have played better than our position suggests and we have got a big game on Friday at home to Bylet."

That match will pit two of the division's bottom three against each other, although Bowring had looked on course for victory at Worthington.

They had led 5-3 going into the back four, having won the front four 3-1 and drawn the middle four 2-2.

But the hosts rallied to take a clean sweep of the back four for victory, and Lawson admitted: "They were at home and they bowled the green better than us overall."

Dave Gourlay earned the Archies' MVP award winning to eight, while Steve Heath was best winner, to five.

Bylet remain in the bottom two after a 7-7 home defeat to Burway, which was decided by just two chalks on aggregate.

Wins to five by Kiah Roberts and Ben Allen proved decisive for Burway as they took the aggregate 203-201.

Meole Brace extended their lead at the top to nine points with a 9-5 victory over defending champions Newport.

They had to battle back from 3-1 down to do so and it proved to be a very worthwhile recovery as second-placed St Georges lost 11-3 at Castlefields.

Sir John Bayley continued their revival with an excellent 10-4 win at Hadley USC.

Wrockwardine Wood beat Chester Road 10-4 and Wem defeated Ifton 9-5.
