Bowls will carry on at Reman Services next year and beyond, reckons the Shrewsbury club's bowls section secretary.

Jeff Davies made the reassuring statement in the wake of the club's annual general meeting.

Members were facing up to the prospect of the adjoining Sports & Social Club closing on December 31.

But Davies said: "There will be bowls on the green next season and for the foreseeable future – there's no question of that.

"I can't say how many teams there will be because, as always, that depends on the number of bowlers who sign to play for us.

"But as far as I am concerned there will be the same number of teams playing next season as there was this year – that was the outcome of the annual meeting."

Reman Services ran teams in Division Three of the Tanners Shropshire on Fridays, Division Two of the Tanners Shrewsbury on Tuesdays and Division Three of the Wem leagues this year, plus two sides in the Shrewsbury Senior Citizens.

The plan is for bowlers to use the bowls pavilion for refreshments next year and the cricket pavilion for toilet facilities.

Davies also chairs a new committee which hopes to form a sports association to cover bowls, cricket, snooker and other indoor sports played on the site.
