It's a top 10 win for St Georges at Bylet

Skipper Tony Rhodes reflected on an excellent 10-4 success for St Georges at Bylet and admitted "it could have been even better."

The Dragons' victory saw them claim top spot in the Flowfit Shropshire Premier Bowls League.

Rhodes said: "It was a great team performance with my four losers also playing really well and just missing out, so things could have been better.

"Their green is tough at the moment and not easy to play but we found a way with some great wins throughout and all four at the back was a bonus.

"Paul Beer continues to impress with another excellent win."

Previous leaders Ifton drop down a place to second as Castlefields produced a good display to restrict them to an 8-6 success.

Adam Jones, part of the captaincy line-up for the visitors, was pleased with the performance by all his team.

Jones said: "We went to Ifton looking for three, so to get six against a strong Ifton side was very pleasing."

Meole Brace are within striking distance of the top two after an emphatic 11-3 home win against Wrockwardine Wood.

Sir John Bayley are two points behind Meole Brace after they defeated Wem USC 10-4.

Hadley USC moved off the bottom and above Wem with a 9-5 victory over Hanwood, who had Premier League debutant Ben Talbot among their winners.

Hadley skipper Rob Burroughs said: "I was happy with another home win but it should really have been 12-2 with three close losers being up in their games.

"But credit to Hanwood, they battle hard and we have to be happy with a 9-5 win as they could have easily got a couple more winners."

Chester Road bounced back from their 13-1 thrashing the previous week to overcome Bowring 9-5.

Champions Newport were defeated 11-3 at Burway, much to the delight of home skipper Chris Dovey.

He said: "It was a great performance from us and a good home victory. I thought that Alan Davidson bowled excellent and deserved MVP for them."
