Bowring cash in as their title rivals falter
Skipper Rich Lawson praised his Bowring side for cashing in as their Flowfit Shropshire Premier League title rivals faltered.
The Telford side enjoyed the biggest victory of the week with a 13-1 home demolition of Hadley USC.
At the same time St Georges and Ifton were going down in tricky away fixtures at Hanwood and Newport respectively.
Lawson said: "I did tell the lads beforehand that St Georges were at Hanwood and that it might be a chance to claw a few points back.
"It might have looked like it would be a home win on paper but you can never take anything for granted in this league.
"We knew we had to play our best to get a result and we did that, so it was a really good home win.
"Maybe they could have had a few more winners because we had four that were down but battled back to win.
"That was the difference between a 9-5 and a 13-1 and that really pleased me."
Leaders St Georges were beaten 11-3 at Hanwood, who continue to impress at home.
Russell Wellings picked up the home MVP for his 21-14 success over Andy Morgan, while Dave King was the visitors' top performer.
Newport were 11-3 winners over Ifton, after making a quick start in which they won all matches in the front four.
Mick Jones led the way with his 21-13 victory against Brian Hayes. Leighton Roberts was Ifton MVP for his 21-6 success over Sam Millward.
Sir John Bayley captain Spencer Clarke was satisfied with five points from their trip to Burway, despite seeing an early advantage slip away.
He said: "I was pleased with the five points, albeit being 3-1 up and plus 18 we thought an away win might be on the cards.
"Burway responded very well to take all cards in the middle and effectively secure the aggregate.
"A special mention to Alex Jones who was immaculate against Kiah Roberts, who himself played much better than the 21-7 scoreline suggested."
Wrockwardine Wood lost 9-5 at Castlefields, but the result was enough to lift them off the bottom.
Wem USC were another home winner as they defeated Bylet 10-4, with Colin Smith's big 21-2 win over Andy James earning him the MVP.
Chester Road skipper Paul Fowles believes his side are starting to settle at home after they saw off Meole Brace 11-3. He added: "We are starting to get to grips with our green."
Meole Brace sit 10th, but will go top if they beat Wem USC 14-0 tonight.
