Tony Rhodes relishing Castlefields clash
St Georges are keen to bounce back from a bad home defeat as they reignite a healthy rivalry with Castlefields.
Tony Rhodes’ Telford-based outfit fell to a surprise loss to lowly Bylet last Friday and face a daunting task to return to winning ways at second-placed Castlefields.
St Georges, who welcome Nigel Evans and Jim Kellett back into their ranks for tomorrow night’s trip, sit eighth in the Salop Leisure Premier Division.
Rhodes admitted the fixture was one that his side keep a keen eye on in the schedule and enjoys the competitiveness between the sides.
“A lot comes from success and respect,” said the skipper. “It’s a real challenge when we play each other and a desire not to lose.
“But you get that at all levels of sport, in football rugby and cricket – there’s also the Telford-Shrewsbury rivalry. Castlefields have started really, really well and we’re coming off the back of a disappointing result but we hope to bounce back. It’ll be a tough job.”
Third-bottom Bylet chalked up one of the results of the season by winning 8-6 at St Georges, leaving Rhodes full of admiration.
“I’d like to say that Bylet were superb,” the captain added.
“They had the momentum on the back four and the shouting and support from the sides was for them. You have to take your hat off.”
Bylet, meanwhile, welcome second-bottom Wrockwardine Wood while Chester Road entertain Sir John Bayley.
Bottom side Hanmer host Burway with Ifton tackle third-place Bowring.
Bowring skipper Jamie King said: “We have two tough away games now at Ifton and Newport. We are in form but they both have good players.”
