County honour is target for Castle

The Shawbury-based team, still basking in the glow of a Division One and Tanner Cup double, set out on the road to fill that gap tonight in the Shropshire Cup.

Although also through to the last 16 of the County Cup, Dave Hanson – ‘Mr Shawbury’ – knows the most realistic chance of success in a Shropshire association knockout starts this evening.

But it won’t be easy as they face a Shropshire Cup first-round clash at Atcham Malthouse against a Bowring team who were runners-up in the Molson Coors Mid Shropshire League last season.

Meanwhile, Battlefield have the chance to be the first club to beat Prince of Wales Hotel in the competition when they meet at Monkmoor.

Prince were the inaugural winners of the Burdass Cup in its new guise as a knockout for non-Premier League bowlers last year after a superb final battle with Old Shrewsbury at Bicton.

Sinclair, conquerors of Mid Shropshire champions Donnington Wood in the preliminary round, take on Hodnet at Meole in one of many juicy looking encounters.
