Wellings, who plays for Hanwood in this league and Meole Brace in the Premier, added to his list of individual honours by triumphing on Sunday at Greenfields.

Everton-mad football fan Wellings, a county fixture since 2011, beat Prince of Wales BC’s Dave Redge – a Meole team-mate in the Premier – 21-12 in the final.

New Wem League secretary Graham Hughes commented: “After an excellent afternoon’s bowling, the Wem League singles final was contested by Darren Wellings and Dave Redge.

“Darren got off to a good start and established a lead which Dave could not pull back.

“The gallant semi-final losers were Phil Whatmough and Carl Preece.

“Our thanks are extended to Greenfields Bowling Club for the excellent facilities provided.”
