Double doubles joy for Harries
Scott Harries has proved yet again that he’s up there with the best on the Shropshire doubles scene.
He claimed his second title of the season when he teamed up with Cheryl Caswell to win the County Mixed Doubles.
Having won the Sinclair Doubles with Bowring’s Jamie King to add to his fine collection in April, Harries turned to Bylet club-mate Caswell to triumph in the Shropshire Ladies-run competition on Donnington Wood’s No.2 green. They beat husband and wife combination Dave and Juliette King (St Georges-Sinclair) 21-9 in the final after 16 pairs took part.
The losing semi-finalists were Joan Edwards and Phil Venables and Shavorne and Paul Osborne.
In-form Caswell followed up by qualifying for the British Ladies Merit finals at Fox Lane in Leyland in July along with Wrockwardine Wood team-mate and past winner Angela Gaut. Olive Pass (Wrenbury) and Sheila Lloyd (Malpas Sports) came through the North Shropshire Ladies qualifier for the same event so they too will be heading up the M6 come Saturday, July 8.
Shropshire’s re-arranged Ladies County Doubles is this Sunday at Allscott (10am) and entries are now being taken for both associations’ Dorothy Piearce Doubles qualifiers – on Sunday, July 2, for North Shropshire and a week later for Shropshire.
