Alex Jones is back in for Shropshire
In charge of their own destiny – that’s the happy situation for Shropshire ahead of their final group game in the Endsleigh British Senior County Bowls Championship.
They take on Derbyshire on Sunday, July 2, sitting top of qualifying section two and with one foot in the semi-finals as the only unbeaten side after victories over Warwick & Worcester and Wales.
Senior team chief Mick Jones and fellow selector Mark Thomas make just one change to the starting 12s, but the choice of Wem USC as home venue – while the away side head to Washlands No. 1 in Burton – means there are movements between the teams.
Andy Moss and Martin Lloyd switch to the home leg with Clay Flattley and Wayne Phillips travelling, while there is an instant recall for Alex Jones of Sir John Bayley after being unavailable for the last match against Wales.
“We have had a little shuffle of the players between the teams and Alex got lucky to regain a place as Phil Emery of Newport is unavailable,” said Jones. “We have gone for one of our banker greens in Wem USC because it is back in good condition and the lads play it alright.”
