The Johnstown powerhouse and Davies, of division one giants Ceiriog Valley, successfully defended the crown at Pentre Broughton on Sunday.

And they did so in style, beating big guns Dave Edwards and Dave Bond of Llangollen 21-12 in the final.

“It wasn’t the best number of entries for this competition, but 22 pairs battled it out on a big green that was in very good condition, offering plenty of variety for bowling,” said league comps chief Trevor Roberts.

“The green was new to the vast majority of bowlers, although you wouldn’t think so judging by the quality of the bowls played throughout the day.

“Kelly and Craig retained the cup with a fine win over the formidable Llangollen pair of Bondy and Big Dave.

“Trailing 11-9 after 16 ends, Kelly got the block back and started leading exceptionally well, winning the next seven ends to get to 18-11.

“They lost control of the jack for just one end before finishing the game 21-12 with an excellent three counting woods.

“The losing semi-finalists were Kevin and Vic Jones from the host club and Roger and James Candlin from Llanymynech.”

Richardson had won the Mixed Pairs with Ade Humphreys the previous Sunday at Church BC.
