Hanwood hope to finish season on a high
Joint-skipper Mark Shore believes a top-four finish would be a great ending to a difficult season for Hanwood.
Shore’s side have jumped up the Salop Leisure Shropshire Premier League on the back of consecutive home wins.
A victory over Sir John Bayley was followed by a 13-1 thumping of bottom club Wem USC. And while Shore admits third is probably out of reach, he insists finishing fourth would be a great achievement.
“The Wem performance was one of our best of the season,” said Shore.
“It’s been a difficult season with the closure of the pub and lots going on behind the scenes, so to finish high up would be great given the challenges we’ve had. But special mention to Derek Wright, he got their point and bowled superbly.”
Hanwood finished strongly last season and Shore is hoping they can do so again.
“It’s got a similar feel to last season where we had some good results towards the end of the season,” he added.
“In the middle part of the season we had three tough away games and then when we returned home the weather wasn’t brilliant and we had a couple of bumpy results. Fifth didn’t look possible then.
“Things have turned around a bit and we are looking to finish fifth again, if not better.
“But we have got to play some teams who are scrapping for points so you never know what might happen.”
