County Women’s Cup winners again – Meole Brace show off the Eric James Salver after beating Broseley in the final

The Shrewsbury giants beat Broseley by 68 shots on Wrockwardine Wood No.2 with eight winners from the 10 games, writes Malcolm Fletcher.

Lesley Winwood gave Morrey Golden Shield winners Broseley a great start by defeating Shropshire Ladies Merit winner Jane Archer 21-10 at No.1, but Meole took total command from then on.

Alison Cotton matched that score at No.2 as they finished nine chalks ahead after the first four before Natalie Connor, Tracy Ryan and Molly Sullivan piled on the points with single figure successes.

The commanding triumph helped ease the memory of Meole’s defeat in a recent final on the same green against St Georges, but not the pain of a 9-3 loss to arch rivals Wrockwardine Wood on the other green at the Telford club the night before that looks to have cost them their Shrewsbury Ladies League championship.

Shropshire Ladies president Mabel Finnigan presented the Eric James Salver to Meole Brace after Mike Potter had refereed the final.
